One of my favorite things to do over the weekend is to enjoy good food on a beautiful open-air patio.
In an Italian garden, overlooking the ocean, on a rooftop – these are some of the best places to dine al fresco in Los Angeles!
The old saying at this 45 year old Malibu local favorite is that the reason they are not open for breakfast is because they are out catching lunch. Founded in 1972, Malibu Seafood is owned and operated by commercial fishermen. The long line may seem intimidating upon arrival for first-time customers, but not to worry – it moves fast and the food is well worth the wait!
Once inside, you’ll be treated to the freshest fish on the coast, casual picnic seating, and stunning views of the ocean.
Recommended Dish: The Ahi Tuna Burger is seasoned to perfection and has always been a customer favorite.
Looking for a fun place to go after work? In the middle of a busy shopping district on the famed Melrose Ave in West Hollywood, Gracias Madre is an upscale Mexican vegan restaurant that was once an antique store. The food is so delicious that restaurant is loved by both vegans and non-vegans alike. A lively outdoor patio scene makes an ideal atmosphere for large groups. With drink priced from $5 – $7 and $10 menu items, their happy hour from 5pm to 7pm Monday through Friday is heaven-sent.
Recommended Dish: The Flautas de Camote is spicy and flavorful. It’s made with sweet potatoes, caramelized onion, guacamole, cashew nacho cheese, and black beans.
Located in what was once a home, Il Cielo is situated on a quaint street adjacent to the center of Beverly Hills. Often called,”The most romantic restaurant in Los Angeles”, Il Cielo is a landmark. With dim string lights, surrounded by tranquil gardens and old-world style of décor, you feel as if you have been transported to the Italian countryside from the moment you enter through the outdoor patio. The dreamy atmosphere and authentic Tuscan style cuisine brings a taste of Italy to Beverly Hills and is sure to make anyone a repeat customer.
Recommended Dish: Their grilled Maine Lobster, Aragosta del Cielo.
-Golden Road Brewing
You don’t have to leave Fido and Fluffy at home when you dine at Golden Road Brewing in Atwater Village.
This pet-friendly brewery on a suburban-industrial strip has a huge indoor-outdoor space. There’s even a dedicated “Doggy Deck” providing plenty of space for you and your 4-legged friends to enjoy an afternoon of food and fun in the sun.
Recommended Dish: The mouth-watering Peanut Butter Ice Cream Brownie with triple chocolate brownies, peanut butter ice cream, oreo cookie crumbles and caramel sauce.
Perch is a cheerful French-inspired rooftop cafe with opulent decor, low lighting and live music.
Their spectacular wraparound open patio overlooks the heart of Pershing Square and Downtown, and it gets very busy during the weekends. If you want to indulge in a comfortable, unpretentious setting with unobstructed views of the entire downtown Los Angeles skyline during the day or a direct view of the stars at night, Perch is the place for you!
Recommended Dish: Their Filet Mignon Au Poivre which is made with a parsnip and potato puree, asparagus, herbs, mushroom ragout, and bordelaise sauce.
