Labor Day Weekend might be over but that doesn’t mean that the summer celebrations have stopped.
This weekend is action packed in Malibu with two parties tonight, Friday September 7th, supporting some great charity organizations in the surf world, and another big event at Bluffs Park tomorrow, supporting our veterans.
These events are not to be missed as they capture the spirit of Malibu and the effort this community puts into fundraising for great causes.
Friday Night the festivities start with a launch party for the 7th Annual SurfAid Cup hosted by Duke’s Malibu on Friday, September 7th from 6-10PM. SurfAid Founder, Dr. Dave Jenkins, will kick off the event.
On September Sept 8th, the MSA Classic starts at 6:30am – 6:00pm & SurfAid Cup 9am/11am/2pm – Finals
1964 sponsored Club Team Paddle Race – 11:30am Bottom of the Point
Followed by Live Music inside
Featuring His Eyes Have Fangs featuring Tony Alva / The Surfaris 8 -12pm
MSA Classic 6:30am – 5:20pm followed by Awards on the beach
If you’re a proud American who’s always wanted to support our veterans but hasn’t known how, giddy up! This weekend, the cavalry’s coming to town.
On Saturday, September 8, supporters from all over the country will attend the 11th annual Ride To The Flags to honor USN Hospital Corpsman Holly Katke, a single mother to 12-year old Leah, who was shot in the head by an enemy sniper while serving alongside the SEALs in Iraq. The funds raised at the event will go towards rehabilitation equipment, life enhancing services, and transportation for Holly.
In past years, celebrities like P!nk, Rob Lowe, Kiefer Sutherland, Carey Hart, Cindy Crawford, Eric Christian Olsen, and Dean Cain have all saddled up and ridden to support America’s wounded troops. One year, The Rhinestone Cowboy himself, the late Glen Campbell, championed our veterans by entertaining the crowd.
The Ride checkin begins at 7:30am and the ride, itself, will kick off at 10:45am at Naval Base Ventura County. For the fifth year in a row, the City of Malibu has graciously granted the White Heart Foundation use of Malibu Bluffs Park for a post-ride rally (Rally Americana) in honor of HMC Katke. The celebration, including food trucks, music by KLOS, and a classic car display is open to the general public. There is no entry fee. (Please note that there aren’t any attractions for children.)
